Florida man who dresses like Jack Sparrow found dead after vanishing on paddleboard
A Florida man known for his Captain Jack Sparrow get-up has been found dead in a bay after he vanished over the weekend on a paddleboard, authorities said.
Joshua Grant Hensley — who was known by locals as “Captain Jack” — was recovered by divers Monday afternoon in Kings Bay by divers, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
The 43-year-old was last seen around 6:30 p.m. Saturday before he launched his paddleboard to go see the sunset from Shell Island, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
His paddleboard was later discovered abandoned near a pier while his vehicle remained in a nearby parking lot, officials said.
The US Coast Guard launched a search overnight Monday to find the Hensley, who often dressed up as the “Pirates of the Caribbean” character, which was played by Johnny Depp, the newspaper reported.
“We offer our deepest condolences to Joshua’s family and friends in this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said. “‘Captain Jack’ was a beloved figure in the community and will be missed.”
