Full list of petrol stations with £30 fuel limit confirmed

For the past few days there have been long queues outside petrol stations, and others have been forced to close all together.

About 800 petrol stations are out of stock of at least one type of fuel, according to government officials.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has not intervened in the petrol crisis, directly appealing to the public not to fill up unnecessarily.

In a bid to help the crisis, many petrol stations have placed limits on how much fuel individuals can purchase at pumps. This has been done in a bid to ensure everyone has a “fair chance to refuel”.

EG Group, which runs 367 fuel stops, including BP, Esso and Texaco, has said the purchase limit on buying petrol has been necessary to ensure they can “carry on running smoothly”.

An EG Group spokesperson said: "Due to the current unprecedented customer demand for fuel and associated supply challenges we have taken the decision to introduce a limit of £30 per customer on all of our grades of fuel.

“This is a company decision to ensure all our customers have a fair chance to refuel and to enable our sites to carry on running smoothly.

"We kindly ask everyone visiting our sites to treat our colleagues, supply chain partners and customers with respect during these very challenging times."

Why is there a fuel shortage?

While you might find it harder to get petrol currently, there isn’t an actual nationwide fuel shortage.

The current petrol crisis is more to do with panic buying than any actual shortage of fuel.

The Petrol Retailers Association, which represents 5,500 independent filling stations across the UK has said that two thirds of its members are out of fuel, and the rest are “partly dry and running out soon”.

However, a joint statement from petrol suppliers including Shell, ExxonMobil and Greenergy has said that the pressure on supply is being caused by “temporary spikes in customer demand – not a national shortage of fuel”.

The situation seems to have been brought on by a shortage of HGV drivers needed to delivery extra supply.
