Melania Trump ‘still hasn’t spoken’ to next First Lady Jill Biden since election
Melania Trump reportedly still hasn’t reached out to Jill Biden while her husband Donald Trump continues to dispute the US election results.
Traditionally, the First Lady of the US contacts and cooperates with her incoming replacement in the days after the next president is announced.
A visit to the White House is arranged while transition planning gets underway, so the incoming First Lady understands the workings of the building.
But despite Joe Biden winning last week’s election, Melania is acting as if her husband didn’t lose – just like he is, CNN reports.
There is said to be little in the way of change taking place at all and preparing for Jill Biden to become First Lady, a source told the channel.
Instead, her work is reportedly still focused upon daily meetings and upcoming holiday planning.
But the source pointed out it is made tricky because of her husband’s refusal to concede.
The source said: "It's my understanding that it's business as usual in the East Wing.
"I'm not sure it's fair for anyone to expect them to start transitioning when the President has not yet conceded."
Ivanka Trump tipped for solo political career as she stays quiet on fraud claims
Capricia Penavic Marshall, a former special assistant to Hillary Clinton when she was First Lady, said "by now" there would have been "at least a conveyance of notes".
Her apparent snub comes despite Melania being invited to visit the White House by former first lady Michelle Obama in the days after the 2016 presidential election.
And it comes as the outgoing US President continues to make allegations of voter fraud but without providing any evidence.
He is taking legal action in key battleground states.
Donald Trump's ex-wife Ivana brands him a 'bad loser' as he refuses to concede
But Melania appeared to back her husband's false claims about "illegal" votes in a tweet last weekend.
She wrote: "The American people deserve fair elections.
"Every legal – not illegal – vote should be counted.
"We must protect our democracy with complete transparency."
Her response was met with derision and fury by many.
Comedian Sarah Cooper replied to her: "You spelt 'congratulations president-elect Joe Biden' wrong."
