After-prom party ends with innocent teen murdered

An after-prom party in Maryland turned deadly when a teen girl was struck by gunfire, authorities said.

Genesis Marie McCarter-Berretto, 18, was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the neck early Sunday, The Frederick News Post reported, outside a Frederick home that was the site of an after-dance gathering.

Emergency responders attempted to revive the teen but she was pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old boy who lived at the home was brought to the local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said McCarter-Berretto and the wounded boy were not the intended targets in the shooting.

Police later arrested Ean Lanell Davis-Lattimore, 17, in connection to the deadly incident about 50 miles northwest of Baltimore.

“We received good information via several different witnesses and individuals we spoke to through the course of our investigation, including several individuals who identified Davis by name,” Police Sgt. Andrew Alcorn told the newspaper.

Davis-Lattimore allegedly got in a fight with another partygoer around 1:45 a.m. Sunday and pulled a gun on the person. The gunfire struck the two victims and the suspect fled the scene, according to police.

He was later arrested for murder, attempted murder and assault.

The teen remained in custody Tuesday at Frederick County Adult Detention Center after waiving his bail hearing.
