Two of Britain’s most notorious killers try to woo the same woman behind bars with promises of a Wag lifestyle
TWO of Britain’s most notorious killers are love rivals behind bars as they both try to woo the same woman with promises of a Wag lifestyle.
Kiaran ‘Psycho’ Stapleton sent letters to the girlfriend of Rhys Jones’s killer Sean Mercer after she caught his eye during a prison visit.
Stapleton, serving life for killing an Indian engineering student, boasted in his letter about “being loaded”.
A source said: “Stapleton is a monster but he likes to think that he is good-looking and spends a great deal of time responding to letters and trying to strike up relationships with admirers. He tells them jail is easy and says he has no problem filling his time.
“He also vies for their attention by boasting he is a millionaire and tells them he’s willing to buy them designer clothes and handbags in return for a relationship.
“He will try it on with anyone. Most are repulsed by the fact he’s a murderer but some women think people can change.”
Stapleton, 28, and Mercer, 29, are housed in Co Durham’s high-security HMP Frankland, which counts some of Britain’s most notorious prisoners among its inmates.
Stapleton is serving life for killing Anuj Bidve, 23, in Manchester on Boxing Day 2011.
His aunt, Mandy Burgess, scooped £1million on an Olympics National Lottery draw in 2012.
Mandy’s husband Damian Noonan ran Manchester’s underworld until he was killed in a motorcycle crash in 2003.
Another close relative of Stapleton’s pocketed a £900,000 windfall on a mobile phone gambling app.
Rival Mercer is also serving life for shooting dead 11-year-old Rhys as he walked home from football training in Liverpool in 2007.
