Who is Joe Biden's son Hunter?

HUNTER BIDEN will be among those first to congratulate his father Joe on officially becoming President of the United States.

The pair have been through a number of tragedies in their lives, while the younger Biden has faced a host of controversies in recent years.

Who is Hunter Biden?

Hunter Biden is the second son of Democratic president-elect Joe Biden.

Hunter was seriously injured in a crash that killed his mother and younger sister, Naomi, in December 1972.

The 50-year-old Yale graduate and lawyer has come under scrutiny after a range of controversies have come to light.

In December 2020, it was revealed that his conduct is being probed by the FBI.

Notably, the son of the new US president was accused of serving the "strategic interests" of China's government and military while he served as a board member of Beijing-based investment firm BHR Partners.

Hunter also served on the board of Ukrainian gas giant Burisma between 2014 and 2019 which paid him $50,000 a month, according to Bloomberg News.

And in March 2020, he again made headlines after missing a child support deadline regarding a child who the court ruled was his.

In an ABC interview from October 2019, Biden acknowledged that he had "done estimable things and things I regret,” but insisted he was now in “probably the best place I’ve ever been in my life.”

However, in November 2019, he was accused of smoking crack while in Washington, DC.

His father said on December 9 that he is "proud" of Hunter.

Joe Biden also confirmed that Hunter will not pursue any business opportunities that could cause issues while his father is president.

What are the trafficking claims?

Most damning of the controversies includes a report allegedly linking Hunter to sending "thousands of dollars" to Russian and Ukrainian women who lived in the US.

Senate Republicans released an 87-page report on his work with Ukrainian gas company Burisma on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

The report found that two Obama administration officials, Amos Hochstein and George Kent, were concerned back in 2015 that Vice President Joe Biden’s Ukraine policy would be a conflict of interest with Hunter’s ties to the gas company.

The report also claims that Hunter sent “thousands of dollars” to Russian and Ukrainian women residing in the US who have “subsequently wired funds they have received from Hunter to individuals located in Russia and Ukraine”.

According to the report, some of the transactions appear to be linking to an “‘Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.’”

A spokesperson for the Biden campaign has yet to address the allegations.

Is Hunter Biden married and does he have kids?

Hunter is married to South African filmmaker Melissa Cohen, 32.

The pair wed in May 2019 and their son Beau – after his deceased brother – was born the following year in March 2020.

It is Biden's second wife after his marriage to Kathleen Buhle in 1993.

He shares three children – Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy – with Kathleen.

The couple separated in 2015 and divorced in 2017.

In 2016, he began dating Hallie Biden, the widow of his brother, Beau.

Biden was hit with a paternity suit in May of 2019 by Arkansas woman Lunden Alexis Roberts, 28, who claimed he was the father of their 18-month-old child.

She alleges they met at a strip club that she worked at in Washington DC.

In January 2020, a court ruled Biden was the father, and he agreed to pay child support in the paternity case.

He had denied fathering the child, but the court determined that he was the father of the toddler, identified as Baby Doe.

What is Hunter's net worth?

The 50-year-old lives in a Los Angeles mansion worth a reported $2.5million (£2million) with his wife Melissa.

Biden's board position with Burisma Holdings reportedly netted him up to $50,000 a month.

He took the position in April of 2014 and stayed on the board until early 2019, giving him the capacity to earn between at least $3million during that time.

Biden co-founded Rosemont Seneca Partners in 2009 and partnered with a Chinese investment company to fund Chinese private-equity firm BHR Partners in 2014.

He held a board position and a stake in the firm.

In 2006, Hunter Biden, together with his uncle James Biden, acquired hedge fund group Paradigm Global Advisors making an annual salary of $1.2million, according to Politico.

In 2008, Hunter also founded Seneca Global Advisors, a consulting firm that helps companies expand into global markets.

Although his earnings from the private firms are not publicly available, records and research suggest his net worth could be millions.
