A young couple are child-free so they can be ‘selfish’, take naps and go on holiday whenever they want – and are so sure they don’t want kids they use extreme birth control.

Indi, 25, and her husband Heraldo Uribe, 34, are intentionally child-free and consider themselves as DINKS – which stands for ‘dual income no kids’.

The couple, who live in Sydney, have been together for five years, enjoy working out together, travelling, going for spontaneous dinners and taking naps.

Indi and Heraldo, say they have always known they never wanted children because they are ‘expensive’.

Also, they both want to be ‘selfish’ and ‘spontaneous’ in their lifestyle.

Indi and her husband Heraldo are so sure about their decision that two weeks after they got married he had a vasectomy so she could come off her birth control pills

The couple love their lifestyle as it allows them to go on holiday whenever they want or plan a trip to see friends with no commitments

Relatives of the couple are disappointed they won’t be having children but Heraldo and Indi say they would rather regret not having kids than regret having them

Heraldo, a car salesman, had a vasectomy in June 2023 as they don’t see children in their future – and was 100% supported by Indi.

Indi, a make-up artist and business coach said: ‘I’m selfish and choose not to have kids because of it.

‘I’d rather be selfish without kids than have them and still want to be selfish. I want to take a nap whenever I want. I want to go for dinner when I want.’

Indi adds, ‘I don’t think I could afford kids.

‘My husband got the snip so we can live forever in our DINK era. The DINK lifestyle is a bit selfish – in the best way.’

Heraldo said: ‘I can focus on what I want – my career, my commitment as a husband and helping others.

‘The DINK lifestyle allows me to almost get my childhood back and enjoy an stress-free life.

‘Your life is yours. Everyone else already lived their life by their design so don’t let them dictate what you do with your opportunity. Life is a gift so use it to write your own story.’

The couple met when Indi was working at a bank and Heraldo had taken a break from serving in the Chilean army in 2018 and moved to Australia as a cleaner in April 2018 – so he could learn English.

The pair would spend their lunch break together communicating through Google Translate while Indi helped teach him.

Indi said: ‘He was in the military and came to Australia to learn English. He ended up not going back.

‘We spoke about kids in the first few months of dating – so we knew we were on the same page.’

Heraldo proposed in November 2020 and the couple tied the knot in August 2022.

The eldest of four, Heraldo grew up looking after his younger siblings, which made him realise having children wasn’t what he wanted for himself.

He explained: ‘As an adult, I finally feel like now I can choose to be childfree and say goodbye to the responsibilities that were burdened on me as a child.

‘It is my chance to enjoy a carefree life.’

A typical day for the pair sees them having a lie in and then going to the gym together before going to work.

And instead of having to pick up a family from school or worry about extra curricular activities, the couple can then enjoy an evening together walking their dogs and having dinner.

On a weekend, Heraldo often comes to work with Indi, before they come back and take an afternoon nap.

They make sure to go on holiday at least once a year and love the freedom they have to take a trip to see friends on go on other travels when they want.

Indi said: ‘It’s the ability to be spontaneous. If we want a lie in we can. If we want to visit friends we can do that.

‘I want peace and quiet and kids are noisy. I don’t see how a child would fit into our life.’

The couple have been together for five years and discussed having children early on so they were both on the same page from the start

Heraldo and Indi love nothing more than coming home from work, having an uninterrupted dinner and walking their dogs

After getting married the couple decided Heraldo would have a vasectomy as Indi wanted to come off the pill after struggling with birth control symptoms.

Indi said: ‘Two weeks after we got married we got questions saying ‘when are you having kids?’

‘We said we weren’t going to and they thought we were joking or that we would change our minds.

‘They’ve realised now we mean it after Herlado got a vasectomy. Some people say they are disappointed in our decision.

‘I made my choice to not have kids. I’d rather regret not having children than regret having them.’
